London Olympics – Bread & Circuses for the Masses

I only returned last night from a holiday with my kids to Europe.  What greeted me was the Olympic mania with Union Jacks (the Butcher’s Apron) everywhere.   We may be suffering cuts, old peoples’ homes closing, increased unemployment and poverty, but at least we have the bread and circuses that the Olympics and the Tories prize buffoon – Boris Johnson – provide.

It’s an old trick.  Patriotism for the masses whilst the rich transfer their money abroad to call centres where wages are lower.

And who gets in on the act ?  Why that one group of parasites aka the Royal Family of Hanover.  No Work Programme for Edward and Randy Andy, Nazi loving Harry or the Middleton girl.  None of them have to be available or actively seeking work.

Morrisey said  what no one has had the guts to say .  The Olympics have become a noxious mixture of patriotism and the most absurd security.  We even have SAMs (surface to air missiles) located on tower blocks (thus making them a target if there was an attack).  The whole Olympic relay nonsense was first begun by Hitler for the Berlin Olympics in 1936.

The Nazis used the 1936 Olympics to whitewash and cover up what they were doing to the Jews.  These Olympics are being used by ruling class buffoons like Boris Johnson to hide the very real poverty that is now being inflicted on people in this country.

Morrissey: Olympic Spirit 'Like Nazi Germany'

Morrissey performs live on the pyramid stage during the Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm, Pilton on June 24, 2011 in Glastonbury, England.

Morrissey has expressed his distaste for the Olympics coverage

Singer Morrissey has slammed the coverage of the London 2012 Olympics for its "blustering jingoism" - and likened the "foul patriotism" to the Germany of the Nazis.

In a statement posted on True To You - an online Morrissey fanzine - the former frontman of The Smiths outlined his distaste for the media attention given to the royal family and the sense of British spirit.

He goes on to say that the "spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain", as a result of the Olympics coverage.

The statement reads: "I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism?

"The 'dazzling royals' have, quite naturally, hijacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness.

"As London is suddenly promoted as a super-wealth brand, the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters.

"Meanwhile, the British media present 24-hour coverage of the 'dazzling royals', laughing as they lavishly spend, as if such coverage is certain to make British society feel fully whole."

He added: "As I recently drove through Greece I noticed repeated graffiti seemingly everywhere on every available wall. In large blue letters it said: 'WAKE UP WAKE UP'.

"It could almost have been written with the British public in mind, because although the spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain, the 2013 grotesque inevitability of Lord and Lady Beckham (with Sir Jamie Horrible close at heel) is, believe me, a fate worse than life."

Morrissey was also heavily critical of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June, comparing her reign to a dictatorship and describing the celebrations as "a new lesson in the force of tyranny".

There was no celebrating three British gold medals on Saturday night for Morrissey. Quite the opposite, in fact, as the former Smiths singer has sent an open letter to members of his fanclub attacking the "blustering jingoism" of the Olympic Games. This comes just a week after he criticised the Olympics on stage in Manchester – for not including the Smiths in the opening ceremony music.
Far from providing a focus of national unity and good cheer, Morrissey says the Olympics have created a situation in which "the spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain". He implored his fans: "WAKE UP WAKE UP."

The full text of the letter to members of his True to You fanclub reads:
"I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? The 'dazzling royals' have, quite naturally, hi-jacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness. As London is suddenly promoted as a super-wealth brand, the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters. Meanwhile the British media present 24-hour coverage of the 'dazzling royals', laughing as they lavishly spend, as if such coverage is certain to make British society feel fully whole. In 2012, the British public is evidently assumed to be undersized pigmies, scarcely able to formulate thought.
"As I recently drove through Greece I noticed repeated graffiti seemingly everywhere on every available wall. In large blue letters it said WAKE UP WAKE UP. It could almost have been written with the British public in mind, because although the spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain, the 2013 grotesque inevitability of Lord and Lady Beckham (with Sir Jamie Horrible close at heel) is, believe me, a fate worse than life. WAKE UP WAKE UP."
Although sports fans may be a little surprised by the vehemence of Morrissey's reaction, an event that combined corporate sponsorship from McDonald's with the near-constant presence of the royal family was unlikely to win his favour. He has a long history of condemnation, including attacks on reggae ("vile"), Elton John ("bring me his head"), Band Aid ("diabolical"), dance music ("the refuge for the mentally deficient"), Chinese people ("a subspecies") and many, many more.
